Are love and trust the only things required for a long term relationship?
Although love and trust is still important and fundamental for a long term relationship, it is undeniable that many local Singaporeans still look at a person’s earning capabilities before marrying.
So what does Rogers look at when it comes to requirements for male clients for his matchmaking dating agency?
Match making agency boss Rogers Tan can confirm on it – he has been operating a Singapore match making agency for around 20 years. During its founding around 1999, Rogers Tan received a large proportion of clients who belonged to the lower income group in Singapore. However, he quickly found it nearly impossible to arrange successful matches at all for these clients.
“Most of them were in their 30s, and some even 40s. When a local girl looks at a man, she definitely wants someone who’s earning more – especially because of their age.”
“Can we blame the girls? Not really. It is the unfortunate truth that Singapore is really expensive to live in no matter how we put it,” Rogers added.
Rogers decided after 3 to 4 years in the business that he needed to refocus on bringing in more high end guy clients to successfully grow his business.
Here is a similar story of a matchmaking agency which is also based in Singapore.
With this refocus and pivot of his business, Rogers was able to achieve more successful matches and happy ever afters for his clients.
Some of his new criteria for men were:
- Have Diploma education at least
- Earn at least $4,000 a month
While these requirements may feel materialistic, it is realistic to him.
While many men and even women chastise him for such requirements, when the question was flipped, the local women who provided such feedback were not able to accept these men anyway.
How about the women?
Rogers’ criteria is different when it comes to female clients. When it comes to the women, it is the age, a slim physique and decent looks that matters more.
However, one thing which is common is that the men also prefer a woman who has at least some form of education – at least O levels or a Diploma is also the requirement.
However, generally speaking according to Rogers, men and women look to different criteria when it comes to selecting a partner – both short and long term.
